Religious Education at CTK
At Christ the King Catholic High School, Religious Education is at the heart of our curriculum because it is at the heart of who we are as a Catholic school. As part of the Mater Ecclesiae Catholic Multi Academy Trust, we are proud to place Christ at the centre of all that we do. Guided by our mission, "Love one another as I have loved you" (John 15:12), we strive to be One Family in Christ, where everyone is valued, supported and encouraged to flourish. We believe that every person is created in the image and likeness of God, and we seek to nurture the unique gifts and talents of every student.
Religious Education gives our students the opportunity to explore some of life's most important questions. Through the study of faith, belief and ethics, students are encouraged to think deeply, reflect on their own values and develop an understanding of the world around them. We want our students to be curious, thoughtful and respectful of others, whilst having the confidence to express and develop their own beliefs and ideas.
Following the Religious Education Directory, To Know You More Clearly, our curriculum places the person of Jesus Christ at its centre. Through the study of Scripture, Catholic beliefs and practices, ethical issues, and a range of faith traditions and worldviews, students develop a deeper understanding of faith and its relevance in today's world. They are encouraged to engage in respectful dialogue, recognise the dignity of every person, and appreciate the rich diversity of beliefs and experiences that make up our society.
Religious Education is both academically challenging and personally enriching. Students develop skills of analysis, evaluation and critical thinking whilst considering questions of meaning, purpose, morality and truth. These skills not only support success within RE but also enable students to engage thoughtfully with the opportunities and challenges of modern life.
As a department, our aim is to help students grow in knowledge, wisdom and understanding. We want them to leave Christ the King as compassionate young people who understand the importance of justice, service and the common good; who recognise the value and dignity of every person; and who are equipped to make a positive contribution to society.
Rooted in the teachings of Christ the King and united as One Family in Christ, we seek to ensure that every student is supported to become the person God calls them to be, living out our mission to love one another in all that they do.
