Business: Statement of Intent


At Christ the King Catholic High School, Business is an optional subject that students can select to pursue through their individualised Key Stage 4 curriculum as a GCSE subject. 

 

The key themes in the course in line with the whole-school curriculum at Christ the King are:

To understand how business practices must be carried out in a legal and ethical manner, that supports fairness and just for all parties involved.

Fitting with the distinct mission of the Catholic school and the Catholic faith in which all individuals, created in the image and likeness of God, have a right to human dignity and value, without persecution. Our scheme of work reflects that of an ever-changing world to ensure that students are prepared for the future as well as being ready for post 16 opportunities to study Business at a higher level or support their transition into the world of work via apprenticeships.

To allow all students of all abilities and backgrounds, especially those who are disadvantaged and/or in minority groups, to grow and develop their skills, knowledge and understanding of the business world, with a view towards using this subject for the common good.

To impart skills, knowledge and understanding, in a phased and fitting manner across all Key Stages, which is appropriate to the learner, reflective of their ability and allows students and staff to continually, develop their knowledge in an increasingly relevant, essential, fast-paced and ever-changing subject.

  1. Establish a positive and focused learning environment

 

In line with the school’s ethos, mission and its’ high expectations for behaviour and academic success; the department seeks to establish a learning environment that is supportive, challenging, stimulating and enjoyable for both learner and teacher.

To engender and foster a love of learning with regard to the subject and it’s place not only in the school curriculum, but in the wider world. With the aim of creating young adults who will go into the world of work with an attitude of care for the individuals which they encounter and the planet in which we live.

To establish an environment where all students are confident and ambitious for their success, through the teacher’s positive high expectations, stretch, challenge and support. To create a subject curriculum that supports cross-curricular learning with essential life skills that are transferable and complement other areas of learning and the individual’s current and future life.
