OVERVIEW OF GOVERNORS’ COMMITTEES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Standards & Effectiveness – Key responsibilities
The main function of the Committee is to advise the Headteacher and Governing Body on matters concerning the school curriculum, in particular:
(a) To ensure that the curriculum provided meets the statutory requirements, including those for reporting to parents/carers.
(b) To advise on ways in which Governors can be involved in curriculum aspects of the School Improvement Plan.
(c) To prepare or review any curriculum policy document which is the responsibility of the Governing Body.
(d) To make recommendations to the Governing Body on assessment policies or arrangements.
(e) To consider all the available data provided by the school and the LEA in relation to student performance.
(f) To monitor student progress in relation to whole school and individual targets with specific reference to particular groups.
(g) To receive reports from the nominated Governors, as decided by the whole Governing Body.
Resources Committee – Key responsibilities
(a) To provide guidance and assistance to the Headteacher and the Governing Body on all financial issues.
(b) To recommend to the Governing Body internal financial regulations for the financial management of the school in accordance with guidance issued by the Authority.
(c) To consider budget plans presented by the Headteacher and to make recommendations to the Governing Body for approval.
(d) To consider budget monitoring reports relating to all public funds (i.e. school budget share and any other funds delegated and devolved by the LEA, including Standards Fund) and make recommendations to the Governing Body.
(e) To prepare staff policies for approval by the Governing Body.
(f) In conjunction with the Headteacher, to draw up a staffing structure (teaching and non-teaching staff, posts of responsibility, etc.) and to review it annually.
(g) To ensure that all the procedures relating to the recruitment, selection and appointment of staff are in place and that they are kept under review following any changes in legislation.
(h) To receive regular reports on staff absence, if not already reported to the full Governing Body
Pay/Pay Appeals – To provide guidance and assistance to the Headteacher and the Governing Body on all pay related decisions/ issues.
Student Support – To provide guidance and assistance to the Headteacher on matters such as student rewards and sanctions.
Staff Appeals – To provide guidance and assistance to the Headteacher and the Governing Body on matters relating appeals as a result of disciplinary/absence/capability and appraisal procedures.
Staff Grievance – To provide guidance and assistance to the Headteacher and the Governing Body on matters relating to staff grievances.
