GCSE Results Support
BBC Bitesize – Post-16: What next?
The big day has finally arrived; hopefully all that hard work has paid off. Here is some support if it has or sadly if things haven’t gone your way. The best advice is to go to the college, training provider or employer you want to attend and show them your results and see how they can support you.
Do not assume that you have to immediately go for your second choice – ASK!
Make sure you think about your decision and talk it through with parents/carers.
Take your results with you and some form of ID – passport, NI number, birth certificate
If you need further careers advice you can contact Mrs Creeley on the following; reception@ctk.lancs.sch.uk
Results are what you wanted/expected – Go to the college you would like to go to taking with you your results sheet and any other ID you have. Enrol on the course you really want to do.
Results exceeded your expectation – Some of you applied for your 2nd choice because you didn’t believe you would get the grades. Well if you did and you now want to do something different go to the college you want to go to and enrol for the course you dreamed of doing but didn’t dare believe you could!
Didn’t get your maths and /or English – Go to the college you would like to go to and see if it is possible to still do the course. Most colleges will be able to offer you a course or alternative provision. (If it is alternative be sure you are doing something you want to do and don’t be afraid to ask. This is YOUR future!)
Results are mainly 3s and you were expecting 4s + If the college you want to attend does do a Level 2 course this would be your best option, if it doesn’t you might need to think again and look at your second choice.
You don’t want to go to college now but do an Apprenticeship – The colleges that support apprenticeships are Preston’s College, Runshaw Blackburn and Myerscough. There are Training Providers that also have lists of apprenticeships and register for the www.findanapprenticeship.gov.uk site.
You have a conditional job offer for an apprenticeship – If you don’t have the results – have a conversation with the company, if they can take you they will. If they can’t accept you, then you will need to look at your second choice.
Make the right choice for YOU! – If you have been working and you suddenly all your friends are going to college and you now think this is what you want to do. Think long and hard about it. Talk it through with parents/carers. You can always go to college in September but if you just quit your job you may struggle to get another one.
