This term a number of our Year 7 students have been selected to become Premier League Reading Stars.  This National Reading Intervention is a partnership between the National Literacy Trust and the Premier League.  It came about as a result of some interesting research by the National Literacy Trust which revealed that ‘only one boy in four reads outside of class every day, and almost two-thirds of boys prefer watching TV to reading’. The programme is aimed at boys, and girls, who are typically more motivated by football and other sports, but not necessarily by literacy.  Once a week our Reading Stars group meet to complete a range of fun and exciting activities which combines football and reading.  As part of a rewards trip for our students efforts in engaging with the programme and for the progression they’ve made with their reading, Preston North End kindly invited us for a tour around their stadium.  It was a brilliant day, the students and staff thoroughly enjoyed it and we would really like to thank Preston North End for supporting our students whilst taking part with this.
