Welcome to the web pages of Christ the King, A Catholic School, computing and ICT Department. We are an enthusiastic team of teachers who are excited by and enthusiastic about, the world of Information Technology. More importantly, we are all passionate about making sure that pupils at Christ the King get the best ICT “experience” possible and we work hard to ensure that we offer a varied, challenging and creative curriculum to all our students. Our aim is to ensure that by the time they leave Christ the King School, all our students are confident, responsible, discerning and skilled users of ICT.

The school currently has 4 fully-equipped computer suites, as well as computers in the school library. As well as standard hardware and software (like MS Office), we are constantly investigating new software and technologies in order to enrich our ICT provision. Students will have the opportunity to use a wide range of software, including Movie Maker, DreamWeaver, Fireworks, Balsamiq, App Inventor and Scratch.

The Curriculum

Year 7 and Year 8

Students in Years 7 and 8 have two ICT lessons a week, students follow the ICT programme of study for Key Stage 3 and will undertake a diverse and challenging range of projects.

Year 9

Year 9 study a year long course learning how to plan and develop Apps for mobile devices, this encompasses a complete range of skills from research and planning through to programming and marketing.

Years 10 and Year 11

Course outline


The Cambridge Nationals qualification will suit those students who have an interest in developing their ICT skills.

ICT skills are essential for success in employment and higher education, and are among the fundamental transferable skills required by employers.

Cambridge Nationals deliver these skills across the whole range of learning styles and abilities, effectively engaging and inspiring all students to achieve great things.

Students will have the opportunity to study the following units:


Unit 1 – Understanding computer systems – Exam – On completion of this unit, students will have gained the knowledge and understanding to use computers more effectively in a variety of different contexts including home, school and the workplace.

Unit 2 – Using ICT to create business solutions – Coursework – This unit will enable students to develop ICT skills that would equip them to operate effectively in a business environment.

Optional Units

Unit 3 – Handling data using spreadsheets – Coursework – On completion of this unit, students will have gained the knowledge and understanding to use spreadsheets. You will be able to create, populate, use relevant functions and manipulate data in a spreadsheet.

Unit 5 –Creating an interactive product using multimedia products – Coursework – This unit will enable students to demonstrate their creative fl air by combining multimedia components to create a vibrant, energetic or stimulating www, webpage, or interactive product.


25% exam (Unit 1)

75% coursework


Undertake Level 3 qualifications part-time or full-time in further education, e.g. GCSE Level ICT, AS/A Level GCE ICT/Computing.
