At Christ the King Creative and Performing Arts consists of 3 disciplines, MUSIC, DRAMA and ART.
Music & Drama
In Key Stage 3 the students rotate the two disciplines half termly, thereby completing 19 weeks of Music and 19 weeks of Drama in 1 academic year.
Students make use of the National Curriculum as a guideline, and each half term consists of 1 module of work, which is completed with a practical and written assessment. Students learn Music and Drama vocabulary on a weekly basis.
The students program in Years 7, 8 and 9 incorporates all the National Curriculum requirements. These units are delivered every half term and run as follows:

Alongside this, each student receives homework tasks every 3rd week. These focus on work learnt in class, aiming to consolidate teaching and/or extend students’ knowledge of a specific unit.
In Key Stage 4 students are able to complete ONE or TWO GCSE’s – in both year 10 and 11.
- 1) Drama is offered during school lesson time over 3 periods a week.
- 2) Music is offered on a Thursday afterschool from-
- 3 – 3.45 pm for year 10
- 3.45pm to 4.40 pm for year 11
Study support is also offered over Tuesday lunch times for Year 11, with some students on compulsory Study Support as part of the Schools’ intervention program.
The GCSE examinations on offer are –
(a) Rock school level 2 certificate in Music – offered to year 10 and 11
(b) WJEC GCSE Single award in Performing Arts – offered to year 11 for the last time in September 2015.
(c) Rock school Level 2 Creative and Performing Arts certificate; Pathway of ACTING – offered to year 10 for the first time in September 2016
The examination results were extremely successful in 2015/16.
For Rock school of music, 100% of students gained A – C grades.
For WJEC Performing arts, 77% of students gained A – C grades, with 100% in A – F grades.
